Waltzes
I love the passionate waltzes of Tchaikovsky and try to put that same kind of emotion into mine.
The Heartskip Waltz: When I was a student at UC Santa Cruz, a group of students wanted to do ballroom dancing, so I put together a small orchestra to play for them. But my orchestra members wanted to dance too! I wrote my first waltz for them and played it while they danced. I was intrigued by the idea of a “skip of the heart”, so I wrote a lot of syncopated rhythms into the piece. WATCH A RECORDING OF THIS PIECE and LEARN MORE ABOUT ITS COMPOSITION
The Waltz and Tarantella: There are several legends about the Italian folk-dance: “The Tarantella”. One states that if you are bitten by a tarantula, you will dance yourself to death. How could I resist the challenge to write the music for that? GET SHEET MUSIC NOW
Waltz in E-flat: My most ambitious waltz (so far!). The bravura ending is a real crowd-pleaser. SHEET MUSIC COMING SOON
